Tasting notes:
'Quintessential new-wave Swartland blend of shiraz (56%), grenache, cinsaut, tinta in 2018, much like 2017 (4.5 stars, 93 pts). Foot-trodden whole bunches, on skins 6 months in concrete. Subtly perfumed, with layers of bright aroma & a real purity persisting to poised palate. Both rich & almost austere in its restraint, powerful & light, succulent & dry. A fine bargain for the ages. Also 1.5L, as white sibling, Bokveld, Kelder, Ramnasgras & Ringmuur.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (95/100)

'Initial impression is, unexpectedly, eucalyptus/menthol. The Shiraz seems to punch above its percentage but there is still the juicy scentedness of the Cinsault. Chewy, full-flavoured, just a bit rustic in texture.' – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20

Alc: 14%

About AA Badenhorst:
AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. The farm is owned by cousins, Hein and Adi Badenhorst, and over the last decade, 41 hectares of old vines, the oldest planted back in 1952, have been farmed back to glory. They practice biological farming and make natural wines in the traditional manner. ‘The top wines translate Swartland through Adi’s fuzzy logic and irresistible charm,’ writes Neal Martin after a visit. He also calls his visit one of his ‘top 10 wine visits of all time’.
