Tasting notes:
'10 months in 400-litre barrels, 40% new before six months in neutral 2000-litre foudre. A complex nose with notes of raspberry, cranberry, wild strawberry and plum plus fynbos, spice and a little earthiness. The palate shows good fruit concentration offset by fresh, almost sour acidity and fine tannins. Although the alcohol is relatively moderate at 13%, this wine is not without depth. Superbly well balanced, this is an elegant and sophisticated rendition of the variety.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 94/100

'A very refined and elegant Pinotage. Carbonic maceration was used on a small part of the crop and the juice retained to blend in post-fermentation, adding extra fresh fruit character. A fresher style than the weighty 2016, this was matured in 400-litre barrels for nine months before spending more time in specially commissioned, neutral, Francois Frère foudres. One of the Cape's finest Pinotages, showing how good this grape can be in the right hands.' – Andy Howard MW, Decanter, 94/100

'Elegant 2017 effortlessly asserts flavours of perfumed bright red & black fruit (50% wholeberry), balanced with ripe, integrated tannins, touch of leather & exotic spicy finish. 40% new French oak enhances & enrobes stellar fruit, assuring a great future. Also in magnum.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

Alc: 13% | RS: 2.3 g/L | TA: 5.2 g/L | PH: 3.57
