Joseph Drouhin, Charmes-Chambertin 2015 Bottle size: 750mlFrance, Burgundy
'Taut and polished, with black cherry, blackberry, licorice and spice flavors locked in the embrace of voluminous tannins. Ample sweet fruit comes to the fore on the lingering finish, where the spice accents continue. Best from 2023 through 2045.' – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 96/100
'This is the first wine to display any appreciable amount of wood and in this case it's generous to the point that there are menthol nuances on the otherwise layered nose that is very Gevrey in character with plenty of game, forest floor and earth scents. The rich, round and seductively textured medium weight plus flavors possess fine depth and length if not the sheer potential of the best here. Still, this is really quite good and should make for a lovely wine with 10 plus years of age on it. Drink 2027+.' – Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 93/100
'Sample. Not owned by Drouhin – and the colour is much lighter than the Petits Monts served alongside. Rather a charmer. Sweet and polished, with sweet damson fruit.' – Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20
'A generous and distinctive wine, often superb. The colour is intense and bright. On the nose, the first impression that arises is that of cherry. Then, woody and fine spicy aromas appear, with an elegant hint of musk in some vintages. The flavours are extraordinary in their richness and harmony, neither too rough nor too heavy. The architecture of the wine is held up by fine and noble tannins, giving the body a silky texture (called 'gras'). Acidity brings energy and liveliness to the whole. The aftertaste is a pure delight.' – Véronique Boss-Drouhin
