The release of the 2017 Cuvée Classique has been labelled ‘pour Lulu’ and celebrates the 100th birthday of Lucie Peyraud, the much loved doyenne of Tempier. It is a blend of 75% Mourvedre, 14% Grenache, 9% Cinsault and 2% Carignan.
Tasting notes:
'The aromatics of this wine are reminiscent of a walk in the forest – brambly, fragrant dried herbs, pine needles, red and black cherries and savoury, leathery, meaty notes. On the palate there is more licorice, violets, with fine-grained gravelly tannins and a juicy acidity supporting the fruit. This is an elegant yet powerful wine, which will require some decanting if opened soon, but also age phenomenally for the next couple of decades.' – Jolette Steyn (Oct 2020)
About Domaine Tempier:
Located in the heart of the Bandol terroir, Domaine Tempier was established during the reign of Louis XV (1715-74). The house was built in 1834 and the estate gained recognition in 1885 after winning its first gold medal. Domaine Tempier has been run by the Peyraud family since 1936 and their 38 ha of land is spread over several parcels planted on steep, sun-drenched slopes that face the sea.
