De Trafford, Straw Wine 375ml 2017
South Africa, Stellenbosch'First in SA; 21st vintage in 2017. Sumptuous & sensual dessert wine from shade-dried chenin, 30 months in 50% new barrels. A taste sensation of exotic tropical fruit, sundried apricot, toasty hazelnut & hint of vanilla; terrific acid balance. First tasted since 2015 (4.5 stars, 91 pts). 375 ml.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (96/100)
'One of the very first people in South Africa to make a straw wine, David Trafford continues to produce one of the most thrilling examples of the style. Saffron, orange marmalade and lemon tart flavours combine beautifully on the palate here with subtle oak and wellintegrated 253 grams of residual sugar. Drink 2020-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 94/100
'Attractive deep yellow colour. Intense honey, apricot, nuts and passion fruit nose. The palate is sweet and concentrated with just enough acidity and oak tannins to compliment and deliver a long, lingering finish. This wine is a dessert all on its own - a real treat after the meal. Delicious with biscotti and various nuts. Compliments slightly tart fruit desserts and good pate's beautifully.' – Winemaker

About De Trafford:
De Trafford winery is situated at a height of 380 metres between the Stellenbosch and Helderberg mountains, on a farm called Mont Fleur. Only 18 years after its purchase in 1976, could the vineyards be planted due to quota restrictions. The property is owned and run by the Trafford family with David Trafford as winemaker, and they follow a "mindful" approach to winemaking.
