Tasting notes:
'Tiny parcel of hand-selected & -picked Elim grapes delivered pre-dawn to De Grendel cellar result in standout cool-climate expression. 2018 lavender perfumed, with dark cherry & hints of spice & black pepper, restrained power for development over next decade. Older barrels, 13 months. 1,357 numbered magnums.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (96/100)

'30% whole-bunch fermented. Matured for 13 months in second- and third-fill barrels. Aromatics that are compelling in their wildness – plenty of pepper and spice to go with red and black fruit. The palate is intensely flavoured with snappy acidity and extremely salty finish. A most particular example of the variety.' – Winemag Prescient Shiraz Report 2020, Top 10

'Only sold in magnums at R850 a pop, Charles Hopkins' cool climate Shiraz from close to the tip of Africa has notes of paprika and charcuterie, some clove and pepper spice from 30% whole clusters, savoury tannins and the freshness and brightness of a cool climate. Drink 2022-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 90/100
