In 2016, De Toren Fusion V was rated the best Bordeaux Style red wine in South Africa by South African Wine Index 2016.

Blend: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot

Tasting notes:
'An impressive follow up to the 2016 release, which also cracked my 95+ point selection, this is a full-throttle but not over-ripe Fusion V, made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 48% Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Intensely aromatic, it has cedarwood notes, plenty of youthful, concentrated plum and blackcurrant fruit, underlying herbal complexity and a freshness that reminds me of some of the earliest vintages. 2022-29.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100

'Maintains quality & style in 5-way Bordeaux blend (half cab), 2017 showing spice, tobacco, elegant blackcurrant core. Dense, dark tannins brood in the background promising plenty of satisfaction over next decade. Year oak, 50% new, 10% American. Magnums (& larger formats) highly recommended.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

'The exquisitely expressive De Toren Fusion V 2017 unveils intense aromas of juicy red cherries and ripe blueberries. It further compels with supporting nuances of perfume, creamy notes of cassis and an understated, underlining chalky minerality. The wine is beautifully textured, with detailed fruit flavours of creamy blackberries. Dense, yet vibrant the wine lingers with soft, fine grain tannins inviting one’s senses for the next sip.' – Winemaker

About De Toren:
De Toren acquired their first vineyards in 1991 and redefined the Bordeaux concept in South Africa ever since, establishing an iconic following. With the De Toren Fusion V, first the blends were decided upon and thereafter the vines were planted to match the blend. At De Toren the pursuit for perfection is evident in their grape selection and harvesting. They aim to ‘create an environment where vines produce flawless fruit and then guard these grapes as they are gently steered from vineyard, to cellar to bottle’ – De Toren
