'Gérard Harmand and his son Philippe run this 9 ha domaine that owns the rarely seen 1er monopole of La Bossière. Gérard is easing out of the day to day operations and put in only a token appearance so it's clear that Philippe will soon become the primary face of the domaine. Philippe noted that 2016 "was a difficult vintage marked mainly by frost and mildew though it all worked out in the end as the second half of the growing season was propitious. But the least that can be said is that it's not an abundant vintage as we were down some 30% though some parcels were much more affected than others. We picked from the 24th of September and brought in ripe and very clean fruit that needed little sorting.
The skins were thick and thus the colors came quickly with almost no manipulation. I like the style of the 2016s as they're classic but where they really stand out is their power thanks to the very good concentration. They will in all likelihood be approachable young but my guess is that they're going to age better than people currently give them credit for." I agree with Harmand that their 2016s are very good if perhaps not quite at the level of their excellent 2015s.
