Tasting notes:
'Matured for 11 months in French oak, of which 20% was new, this is an archetypal example of the variety. Citrus is the obvious aromatic but also notes of blossom, struck-match reduction, some waxiness, vanilla and spice. The palate, meanwhile, has both heft and verve – a solid core of fruit matched by fresh acidity. What you get when vineyard, vinology and vintage all come together for good.' – Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za, 93/100

'The cooler conditions of 2017 produced some delicious whites as well as reds, typified by the freshness, focus and poise of this great value Chardonnay. Balanced, poised and judiciously oaked with citrus weight and creamy lees. 2019-24' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 93/100

'White pear, tropical fruits, vanilla and roasted almonds on the bouquet, marries flawlessly to a rich, melded palate. The subtle, integrated oak aromas contribute to a long, creamy finish, underpinned by a rapier-like fresh acidity.' – Hartenberg Estate

About Hartenberg Wine Estate:
Hartenberg is situated in its own self-contained valley on the slopes of the Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch. It was created 30 years ago and has come a long way since its original poor parcel of dry gravelly soil. It was Carl Schultz, Hartenberg’s Winemaker, who saw the potential in ‘The Gravel Hill’ and noted the superiority of the grapes that were grown there. Hartenberg was thus one of the first South African estates to separately vinify grapes from a particular terroir.

The 170-hectare property has a pure water source running through it, and a number of birds and animals which call Hartenberg their home. As such, the owners and staff have accepted responsibility for the conservation of the property through considered and sustainable use of all natural resources. They have various initiatives in place to ensure an environment where nature thrives.
