Lambrays, Clos des Lambrays 750ml 2015France, Burgundy
Lambrays follows organic farming practices.
'The 2015 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru continues to show very well, unfurling in the glass with a rich bouquet of ripe plums, blackberries, dark chocolate and forest floor. On the palate, it's full-bodied, satiny and powerful, with an ample chassis of fine structuring tannins and a deep core of fruit, but the wine is shutting down and is more inscrutable than it was six months earlier. Readers with bottles in their cellars are sitting on a great example of Clos des Lambrays, one of the best produced since the 1970s, but a decade's patience is advised.' – William Kelley, Wine Advocate, 95/100
'Here too the nose is quite ripe yet very fresh with its layered array of spicy and markedly floral-inflected black cherry and plum scents that are trimmed in both discreet wood and menthol nuances. There is impressive size, weight and power to the more mineral-driven and refined medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by a distinctly firm tannic spine on the wonderfully persistent and mildly austere finale. This is first-rate and one serious wine in 2015 and thus be prepared to allow it at least 10 to 12 years first.' – Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 94/100
'The 2015 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru has a pure, utterly seductive bouquet of raspberry coulis, wild strawberry, crushed stone and seamlessly integrated new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins - a "serious" Grand Cru that has closed up in recent months. Foursquare, distant and aloof - but maybe that is what you seek at this stage? Not enjoyable but certainly a quality-driven wine that needs a decade in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 94/100
About Domaine des Lambrays:
Despite being enclosed by a centuries-old wall of dried stones, one could spend hours exploring the grounds of the Clos des Lambrays. The Clos des Lambrays is one of the 33 Grands Crus of Bourgogne, located in one of the region’s most precious so-called 'Climats'.
Originated from the almost monopoly of the estate within the Grand Cru, the Clos des Lambrays by Domaine des Lambrays is a wide ownership, if you compared it to Bourgogne scale. The plot is far from homogeneous. Its smooth slopes offer a diversity of sun exposures that are key for the complexity of the wine. At the top, the Clos is composed mainly of marls whereas the bottom clay mixes with limestone. Wine is aged in the Domaine’s underground cellars in oak barrels, half of which is renewed every year.
