Leeuwenkuil, Reserve Red 2018 Bottle size: 750mlSouth Africa, Swartland
'2018 has a distinctive perfume on the nose backed by the aroma of caramelized plums. The palate offers an abundance or pure red fruit: cherries, cranberries and plums with a peppery and savoury finish. It is a fresh wine with great depth of flavour and complexity, finishing long and begging another sip!' – Winemaker
The Reserve Red 2018 scored 90/100 in the Winemag Prescient Red Blend Report 2020
Alc: 13.5% | RS: 3.0 g/L | TA: 5.3 g/L | PH: 3.57
Tasting notes on the 2017 vintage:
'This is a new wine from Leeuwenkuil, priced below its top reds and made in larger volumes. A Syrah-based assemblage with Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvèdre, the Reserve Red achieves concentration without over ripeness. Sappy and fresh, with notes of black tea and clove spice and top notes of lavender and thyme. Drink 2019-24.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 93/100
