Tasting notes:
'Some previous vintages of Luddite Shiraz have been a little too pruney for my taste, but this was picked in early February and fermented with 10% stems for added freshness and structure. Plum, damson, fig and blackberry fruit flavours are framed by 20% new oak and complemented by fynbos aromas. Drink 2021-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 93/100

'Dark plummy in colour with bright edges. Spice, juicy fruit, cinnamon, plummy and a hint of toastiness on the nose. Bold juicy fruit on entry with a touch of cinnamon on the palate. Mid-pallet is broad, rich and dominated by dark fruit. This is all balanced with dry, firm tannins on the finish.' – Winemaker

About Luddite:
In 1999 Niels and Penny Verburg established their own wine farm on the slopes of the Houw Hoek Mountains in Bot River. They named their farm Luddite, meaning ‘someone who is resistant to new technology or new ways of working’. This definition captures their winemaking philosophy perfectly as Niels is constantly striving to create perfect wines despite the challenging conditions thrown his way. Niels and his team at Luddite are incredibly passionate about their Shiraz and are never willing to compromise on quality. This dedication translates into consciously-farmed grapes and small-batch wines that have amazing character.
