Château Pesquié: Summer wines from South of France

Château Pesquié is one of the great estates of the Ventoux,’ writes Joe Czerwinski for the Wine Advocate. Their latest vintages show, yet again, why Pesquié is one of Wine Cellar’s favourite producers in the Southern Rhône. The Chaduière family effortlessly showcases the cooler conditions in Ventoux's appellations by producing wines of tremendous purity, freshness and elegance.

Le Paradou Grenache 2018 remains knock-out value at only R160. A delicious and unpretentious ‘Vin de France’ made from 75-year-old Grenache vines, it is one of those wines we always have in our weekend wine orders. Served slightly chilled, it would be hard to find a more perfect summer red.

Le Paradou Côtes de Provence Rosé 2019 is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Vermentino from a vineyard in the heart of Provence. It is fragrant and fruity with a beautiful zestiness and citrus blossom. It’s ideal for the upcoming sunny days and, dare we say it, poolside sipping!

Alexandre and Frédéric Chaudière’s family were pioneers of the Ventoux appellation with a history that dates back to the 19th century. Their old-vine Grenache cuvées, Artemia and Ascensio, are once again superb – beautifully layered, pure and elegant. They reflect the stellar 2017 vintage perfectly.

Don’t forget to check out Pesquié’s Terrases Ventoux Rouge 2017 and Ventoux Blanc 2019. Produced from the estate’s old, terraced vines at 300m, just below Mount Ventoux, these are considered a ‘raw and naked expression of Ventoux’s fabulous terroir’ by Jeb Dunnuck of the Wine Advocate. Tasting notes

Pesquié, Le Paradou Grenache 2018

More fruit-forward than the 2017, the 2018 Vin de France Le Paradou Grenache combines notes of strawberries, raspberries and cherries on the nose, then backs that up with lots of silky-textured red-berry notes on the medium to full-bodied palate. It should drink well through 2023. – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 88/100

Pesquié, Le Paradou Côtes de Provence Rosé 2019

Note on the 2018 vintage: A joint effort from American importer Eric Solomon and the Chaudière family of Château Pesquié in the nearby Ventoux, the 2018 Cotes de Provence Rose offers scents of tangerine zest, flavors of barely-ripe melon and citrus, followed by a crisp, zesty finish. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with a bit of creamy texture and a hint of citrus pith bitterness. – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 87/100
