It would be amiss of us if we didn’t highlight the incredible value of the 2018 Lammershoek The Innocent Syrah. On the back of last year’s Winemag Top 10 award for the 2017, the 2018 trumped pricier competition and placed, yet again, in the Top 10 of this year’s Winemag Prescient Shiraz Report. At this price, it’s one of our value picks of the year!
As one of the oldest wineries in the Swartland, with some vineyards dating back to 1966, Lammershoek is well-known for its quintessential Swartland terroir and great vineyards. The custodians work as naturally as possible in both the vineyards and the cellar. The Innocent Syrah 2018 is a bright and refreshing expression of Swartland Syrah. The palate is savoury and moreish with a dry, focused finish. The shy fruit is laced with fynbos and a dusting of meat spices. This is just the sort of super-satisfying, yet elegant Syrah we like at Wine Cellar.
