New Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir joins the top ranks – Magnum Opus
Planted at an altitude of 370m in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, the single vineyard that produces the Bosman Magnum Opus is one of the highest in the entire region. To cut to the chase, this 2,000-bottle reserve bottling from 2017 immediately joins the top ranks of SA Pinot Noir. In fact, it’s the most exciting new Pinot Noir we have tasted since the 2012 Storm Vrede!
2017 was, quite simply, a brilliant vintage in the Hemel-en-Aarde and, when I first tasted it at the 2019 Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir Celebration, I was immediately struck by its unique depth, texture and class. Winemaker Natasha Williams did a stint in Oregon prior to harvest and utilised a portion of whole bunch in the fermentation. Combined with maturing vineyards and their unique granite-strewn terroir, it offers haunting aromatics and linear expression.
If you enjoyed the ‘standard’ 2017 Bosman Pinot Noir, the 2017 Magnum Opus offers a new level of quality and enjoyment. In comparison to great Pinot Noirs around the world, this offers solid value and is a must-have for Pinot Noir lovers. Exclusive to Wine Cellar.
P.S. This is a standard 750ml bottle!
