The signature Savage Red 2021 is a brilliant expression of Polkadraai Syrah, and possibly the finest wine in Duncan’s latest set of releases.

Savage White 2022 is a Bordeaux-style blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, delivering the best of these varieties. ‘Rich and satisfying’, opines Christian Eedes. Though complex and enjoyable now, it will be even more impressive in three years’ time and is sure to last a decade or more.

The Savage Red is 100% Syrah – organically farmed on the Langverwagt vineyard in Polkadraai, Stellenbosch. Aromatically enthralling, it shows white pepper spice and florals with chiselled, fruit-coated tannins. The Savage White has attractive reductive notes, opening up to white stone fruit, fynbos and an inviting sea breeze that leads to a focused, linear and salty end. The 2022 is 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon.

Savage White Blend 2022

‘75% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon. Matured for 12 months in 500-litre barrels, 20% new. Complex aromatics of fennel, elderflower, blackcurrant, peach and nectarine while the palate is wonderfully harmonious – good fruit weight, creamy texture, the acidity well integrated. Savage Red 2021

‘Grapes sourced from the Langverwagt farm in Kuils River on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. 100% whole-bunch fermented. Matured for 13 months in older 500-litre barrels before a further 10 months in foudre. Red currant, wild strawberry, dried herbs, cured meat, pepper and spice on the nose while the palate has good fruit density, bright acidity and powdery tannins.
