Meerlust, Red 750ml 2019South Africa, Stellenbosch
'The nose shows red fruit, violets, subtle notes of vanilla and spice plus a hint of reduction. The palate is opulent and open, or at least as much so as any Meerlust wine ever gets. To be hyper-critical, it might be said that it is lacking in mid-palate, but there’s a nice freshness and the tannins are quite soft making it instantly likable. You suspect the property won’t have any cash flow problems in the foreseeable future.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 90/100
'An elegant intro with fresh notes of crushed herbs and red fruit. An inviting, lifted nose – typical Meerlust maritime aromas over graphite and old-world Cabernet Sauvignon depth, leading to a medium-bodied palate with lovely balance and a more-ish, classic finish. Very claret like. Ready to enjoy now but will easily evolve for a decade and more.' – James Pietersen (Feb 2021)
'The wine has an intense, dark purple colour with a violet rim. Bright and vivacious in the glass, very youthful. The nose is expressive with powerful cassis, plum, exotic spice and hints of floral aromas. On the palate the wine is medium bodied with intense flavours of crushed black fruit, cassis, vanilla and dark chocolate. The tannins are very soft and silky with fresh acidity and a focused, linear flavour profile. The wine has a persistent and long lasting aftertaste.' – Winemaker

The Meerlust name is synonymous with tradition, elegance and longevity. In fact, it was their Cabernet Sauvignon, produced since 1975, that was the first to carry the Meerlust label.|
