Miles Mossop Wines, Max 2017 Bottle size: 750mlSouth Africa, Stellenbosch
'Classic cigarbox & cassis on 2017 blend 47% cab, with merlot & petit verdot, & 6% cab franc for first time; from Stellenbosch sites. Powerful (14.5% alcohol) but not lacking refinement, with flavour depth. Firm, succulent tannins & third new oak will benefit from bottle ageing. Also in 375ml-9L.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)
'Ideal conditions' is how Miles Mossop (and many other winemakers) describes the 2017 vintage. This stylish cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon with 53% Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc is youthful, serious and dense, with impressive focus, depth and palate length, notes of graphite, cassis and capsicum and scented 37% new wood. Drink 2022-29.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 94/100
'This wine is a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 21% Petit Verdot and 6% Cabernet Franc. The wine displays a deep dark plum red center with a brilliant garnet rim. Aromas of fresh bramble fruit emanate from the glass with underlying notes of dried herbs, cedar wood and tobacco leaf. The palate is full of vibrant dark and red berry fruit underpinned by dried herbs and vanilla oak. The midpalate is juice leading to a dry, textured lingering finish.' – Miles Mossop, Winemaker
