'SA classic from prime terroir, built for 10+ years. Graphite & fresh herb overlay to pure blackcurrant fruit, pinpoint acidity & fine-boned tannin, standout-vintage 2017 a stunning exemplar of this wine’s signature elegance, harmony, latent power. All-new oak, 18 months, like fine 2016 (4.5 stars, 94 pts). Magnum, 3L & 5L too, as most of these.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (97/100)

'Priced above his other Bordeaux style reds, Warren Ellis' Jonkershoek Cabernet is very distinctive and special in style, especially in a stellar vintage like 2017. Bold and assertive, with notes of fynbos and Mediterranean herbs, plenty of colour and dark-fruited bramble and blueberry intensity. Drink 2022-29.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 93/100

'Intense dark colour. The nose shows restraint, with deep underlying aromas of complex blue and blackberries and cedar aromas typical from Jonkershoek. The palate is nervous and fresh followed by fine, dense tannins. This is a wine built to last and early drinking would benefit with decanting.' – Winemaker

Producer information Neil Ellis has created a legacy. It began in 1984, when Neil Ellis sourced grapes from various Stellenbosch vineyards and produced wine in rented cellars. Today, the winery is a fully family-run affair with the Ellis children taking over various roles in the business. Warren Ellis heads up the winemaking with great success and, while building on their past, we can see a marked shift towards greater refinement and finesse.
