Olifantsberg, Grenache Noir 750ml 2018
South Africa, Breedekloof'Watch out Piekenierskloof! You're not the only region that can make impressive Cape Grenache. Densely planted between 2011 and 2013, this fruit-driven red has lovely aromatic spices on the nose that lead you into a palate that's focused, stony and packed with red berries. Drink 2020-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 92/100
'2018 improves on 2017 (4 stars, 86 pts) in subtlety & complexity. Bright fruited, refreshing but with nuanced, layered palate. Natural ferment & time in older oak add depth & grip. Could take light chilling.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (91/100)
'Some whole-bunch fermentation. Aromatics of red cherry, a hint of rose, dried herbs and spice while the palate is light and fresh with fine, powdery tannins making for a very dry finish. Elegant and understated.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100
'This is an aromatic and refreshing wine with wild strawberry and lifted herbaceous notes. This wine also shows grippy tannins and is supported by a naturally high acidity making it fresh and delicious.' – Winemaker
About Olifantsberg Family Vineyards:
Olifantsberg is located in the Brandwacht Mountain Range overlooking the Breedekloof valley. This location experiences dramatic temperature differences within a day and the summer and winter climates help to ensure slow ripening of the grapes which in turn contribute to fresh and elegant wines. The winemaker, Elizma Visser, joined Olifantsberg in 2015 and is focused on following a natural, sustainable farming approach. Simple techniques are used in the winemaking, traditional oak casks and foudres are used, and where possible the grapes are naturally fermented which aids in a lower alcohol and sulphur content in the wines.
