Reyneke, Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml 2019
South Africa, Western Cape'The Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 from Reyneke hugely over-delivers at R90 a bottle. Grapes are sourced from across the Western Cape, one portion directly from the Reyneke plantings in Stellenbosch and another from no lesser grower than Leeuwenkuil in the Swartland and it’s only lightly oaked, 25% matured for eighth months in older oak. The nose is very expressive with notes of black berries, earth, spice, dried herbs and a slight meaty quality while the palate has great fruit expression, driving acidity and grippy tannins. What it might lack in intricacy, it makes up for in exuberance.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100
'The nose is spicy, with aromas of black pepper, plum, cherry and cedar wood. There is also a light perfume of violets and plum on the nose. The palate is well balanced and structured, with juicy fresh tannins and a dry finish. Distinct notes of red fruit and spice on the palate, all add to this complex and enjoyable wine.' – Nuschka de Vos, Winemaker
About Reyneke:
Reyneke is one of 5 Stellenbosch properties to get First Growth status in Tim Atkin’s 2017 SA Report. Reyneke farm began in 1863 when it was then named ‘Uitzicht’, meaning ‘view’. It is located overlooking Stellenbosch and False Bay with north, south and east facing slopes. Reyneke is certified organic and biodynamic and follows sustainable practices in everything they do. ‘Their wines demonstrate the care they take, not infallible wines, rather honest and personality-driven wines that are distinctive, as much cerebral as sensory experiences,’ says Neal Martin.
