Pieter Ferreira, Blanc de Blancs 2013 Bottle size: 750mlSouth Africa, Western Cape
'Tapestry of chardonnay’s green apple, lime & brioche in 2013. Like Rosé, only cuvée juice used. 6 years on lees, then 7 months (previously 12) in bottle, enhancing intensity & freshness, with toasted hazelnut nuance from 21% oak-fermented portion. Tensile minerality & dry finish (extra-brut 3.8 g/l) make this one for the cellar. Robertson (60%) & Darling grapes.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (95/100)
'The 2013 vintage of Pieter Ferreira Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs that follows the much lauded 2012 is now out and again it’s superlative stuff. Again from Chardonnay drawn from across the Western Cape, the nose shows citrus and green apple, freshly baked bread and a hint of reduction. The palate has a dense core of fruit with driving acidity and fine, creamy mousse. It makes a huge impression in terms of reined-in power but perhaps lacks the detail that the maiden vintage already had on release although this will surely come with time in bottle.' – Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za, 93/100
