Reyneke, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml 2017
South Africa, Stellenbosch'Barrel selection in exceptional vintages. 2017 dark, compact core of cassis, cocoa & salty liquorice, cab’s herbaceous nuance. All tightly bound in dry chalky fruit & oak tannins from new wood. Concentrated, youthful, should age decade or more. Last was 2015 (5 stars, 95 pts).' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)
'Matured for 20 months in 100% new, light-toast 225-litre barrels. A brooding nose with notes of cassis, tea leaf, earth and oak. The palate, meanwhile, is monumental – super-dense fruit with firm tannins, the finish very long and dry. Compelling in its boldness.' – Winemag Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2020, Top 10 (94/100)
'Reyneke only makes a top Cabernet Sauvignon in selected vintages, which is why this is only the third release after 2013 and 2015. It's a compact, tannic, richly concentrated red with lashings of new wood, masses of colour and damson, black fig and blackcurrant fruit. Impressive, if slightly lacking in charm. Needs time in bottle. Drink 2023-30.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 93/100
'Uitzicht, farmed by Johan Reyneke, is one of only two officially certified biodynamic estates in South Africa; Rudiger Gretschel, of major wine company Vinimark, and Nuschka de Vos make the wine. Matured for 20 months in 100% new, light-toast, 225-litre barrels, this comes across as monumental. A brooding nose of cassis, tea leaf, earth and oak lead to a palate of super-dense fruit with firm tannins. The finish is very long and dry. Drinking Window 2020 - 2029.' – Decanter, 93/100

About Reyneke:
Reyneke is one of 5 Stellenbosch properties to get First Growth status in Tim Atkin’s 2017 SA Report. Reyneke farm began in 1863 when it was then named ‘Uitzicht’, meaning ‘view’. It is located overlooking Stellenbosch and False Bay with north, south and east facing slopes. Reyneke is certified organic and biodynamic and follows sustainable practices in everything they do. ‘Their wines demonstrate the care they take, not infallible wines, rather honest and personality-driven wines that are distinctive, as much cerebral as sensory experiences,’ says Neal Martin.
