The De Morgenzon Reserve Chenin Blanc 2018 was named Best White Overall and Best Chenin Blanc in the Winemag Prescient Top 20 Wines South Africa 2020 Report.

Tasting notes:
'Grapes from a 1972 vineyard. Spontaneously fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak, 20% new. A hint of reduction before citrus and stone fruit, some yeasty complexity plus hints of vanilla and spice. The palate is rich and creamy yet also possessing vibrant acidity, the finish is long and savoury.' – Winemag Prescient Top 20 Wines South Africa 2020 Report, 95/100

'Part of the DeMorgenzon range since 2005, this superb Chenin comes from five very different sites on the farm. Rich and complete, it combines citrus, stone and tropical fruit notes with subtle reduction, a hint of orange zest, stony acidity and perfectly judged 22% new wood. Drink 2020-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 95/100

'Really serious wine with aromas of creamy vanilla, nougat and honey over Cashew and Macadamia nut. Flavours of toasted salted almonds, grilled peaches and flowers. Wonderful length - a delight of a wine!' – Decanter World Wine Awards, Gold Medal, 95/100

'Staggered picking helped temper the drier vintage, though 2018 a tad riper & with less verve than stellar 2017 (5 stars, 95 pts), but similar rich, oaked styling, reflecting the stylistic synergy between New World opulence & Old World intensity & elegance.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

About De Morgenzon:
DeMorgenzon was originally a section of Uiterwyk, one of the oldest farms in South Africa. It was purchased in 2003 by Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum who intricately studied the land and climate in order to establish the best varietal blocks and vineyards. De Morgenzon means ‘the morning sun,’ since its location of 200m to 400m above sea level, is the first to see the rising sun. The 224 acre property is known for its beautiful gardens and wildflowers which grow between the vineyards. De Morgenzon is firmly entrenched as one of the best Stellenbosch producers of Chenin Blanc. Their De Morgenzon Reserve, with its many ‘best in class’ awards, attests to this. However, it is their ultra-premium The Divas Chenin Blanc that raises the bar.
