Reyneke, Cornerstone 2017 Bottle size: 750mlSouth Africa, Stellenbosch
'The 2017 Cornerstone, matured in 30% new French oak for 18 months (the Merlot and Cabernet Franc aged in foudre) has an opulent bouquet of lavish dark cherry, cassis, blueberry and whole bunches of freshly picked violets. It would be overwhelming if not for its entrancing purity and pixelation. The palate is medium-bodied with a finely chiseled lattice of tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and wonderful mineralité toward the finish. This is an outstanding wine from Johanne Reyneke and his team. Drink 2023-2040.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 96/100 (Apr 2021)
'Cornerstone is Reyneke's Bordeaux style red blend, produced from a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon with 46% Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Grassy, fresh and intense, with plenty of underlying structure and ageing potential, well-integrated 30% new wood and more focus than preceding releases. Drink 2021-25.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 92/100
'54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc and 14% Merlot. Matured for 18 months in French oak, 30% new. Intense dark fruit, violets, mint, earth and spice on the nose while the palate is dense and smooth textured. Impressive weight but lacks a little finesse.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 89/100
'This classical Bordeaux style blend combines freshness with real concentration, showcasing the best of Stellenbosch. Intense notes of blackcurrant, star anise, thyme with underlying dark fruit complete the nose of this blend. A core of dark fruit on the palate, combined with a good tannin structure and great complexity, makes this wine linger on the palate.' – Nuschka de Vos, Winemaker

|Producer information||Reyneke is one of 5 Stellenbosch properties to get First Growth status in Tim Atkin's 2017 SA Report. Reyneke farm began in 1863 when it was then named 'Uitzicht', meaning 'view'. It is located overlooking Stellenbosch and False Bay with north, south and east facing slopes. Reyneke is certified organic and biodynamic and follows sustainable practices in everything they do. 'Their wines demonstrate the care they take, not infallible wines, rather honest and personality-driven wines that are distinctive, as much cerebral as sensory experiences,' says Neal Martin.|
