'86% from a 1975 Cinsault vineyard and 14% from a 1976 Pinotage vineyard, both on the Lower Helderberg. Predominantly made using whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation. Black cherry, a hint of smoky reduction and a little earthiness on the nose. Good fruit expression, bright acidity and nicely grippy tannins, the two varieties combining well to provide a wine that for all its lightness, still has pleasing structure.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 90/100

| Producer information | Scion refers to the top part of a plant/vine or can also mean 'the descendant of'. Sinai refers to the ‘Sinai Hill’ which is a granite hill in the lower Helderberg region. Bernhard Bredell used these words to create the name Scions of Sinai which is also applicable given that he is the 7th generation (descendant) of Bredell wine farmers. Scions of Sinai Wines mainly focus on curating the uniquely located vineyards of the Lower Helderberg region around a granite hill. Bernhard hopes that his wines express the vineyard, it’s soil and the vintage clearly and purely. |
