'Individual & rather gorgeous, limpid gold 2019 from 84% chenin, has viognier, roussanne & verdelho adding floral aromas & apricot notes. More savoury than fruity, richly full of flavour, textured, with a fine natural acidity. 10% new oak, moderate 13.4% alcohol. Also in 1.5L.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

'Made with fruit from young bush vines out in the wilds of Malgas, close to the mouth of the Breede River, this is an excellent counterpoint to the world-class red. Stony, bready and refined, with green apple, pear and peach skin flavours, racy minerality and some tannic structure from partial skin contact. Drink 2021-25.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 93/100

'84% Chenin Blanc, 14% Viognier and the remainder Roussanne and Verdelho. Fermented and matured for 10 months in 400- and 700-litre barrels, 10% new. A hint of jasmine before yellow peach, orange, ginger and other spice as well as some leesy complexity on the nose. Rich and flavourful with tangy acidity and a salty finish – lightly grippy thanks to a little slight skin contact.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100

'A beautiful limpid gold colour in your glass. Caramelised pineapple, stony, savoury nose. A rich and full bodied flavour profile. A vibrant palate of honey and salted liquorice, peach pith, apple and pear skins and slate. Lovely minerality, enhancing the freshness and acidity of the wine. A good tannin structure coming from the slight skin contact. Hints of fennel and rosemary linger in the glass. Drinking best 2021-2025. This wine can be paired with a variety of foods, but a favourite would be a mildly spicy Butter Chicken curry.' – Charla Haasbroek, Winemaker

Producer information David Trafford's Sijnn project is based in Malgas along the Breede River. Forty kilometres away from any other vineyards, it's tremendously rocky soil and Breede River-influenced microclimate is unlike any other in South Africa. These unfiltered, unfined, real wines are made in tiny volumes and speak of Malgas' amazing terroir.
