Devaux & Chapoutier, Sténopé 750ml 2011
France, Champagne'50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay. Zingy and zippy layers of peach and nectarine to the nose, citrus bright fruit and spiced toast to the palate.' – Decanter World Wine Awards, 91/100 (Silver)
'A fine nose with the scent of hazelnut, covered in subtle aromas of vanilla and toasted bread, followed by dried apricots, chocolate and sugared almonds. A crisp taste with hints of lemon zest and white fruit. A long, invigorating and slightly salty finish. Sténopé 2011, a delicate wine, pairs perfectly with oysters, fugu or sweetbread.' – Winemaker
About Devaux & Chapoutier:
‘It all began with a meeting between Champagne and the Rhone Valley, around shared values of open-mindedness and respect for terroir. This encounter gave birth to a daring idea of creating a Champagne that is both rare and full of character,’ says Devaux of this collaboration.
Located in Côte des Bar, Devaux was founded in 1846 by brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux. Thereafter, the house was managed successively by three widows, Claude-Joseph Devaux, Augusta-Maria Herbin and Marguerite Marie-Louise, who each elevated the success of Devaux. Since 1987 the house was entrusted to Groupe Vinicole Champagne Devaux since its last manager had no heir.
With a 200-year history, wines from all corners of the Rhône and supreme quality throughout, Michel Chapoutier is the king of the Rhône Valley. Organic and biodynamic farming principles, together with traditional winemaking in top appellations, produce structured wines with long ageing potential. The wines tend to be generous, but each one speaks of its terroir and shows immaculate balance.
