Storm Wines, Ignis Pinot Noir 2019 Bottle size: 750mlSouth Africa, Hemel-en-Aarde
'Ignis comes from the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, the middle of the three sub-regions, just two kilometres from Vrede. Planted in 2008 on decomposed granite soils, this vineyard tends to ripen earlier than Hannes Storm's other plots. Savoury, scented and delicate, it has Chambolle-Musigny like finesse and sweetness and some underlying grip - the "bass note of clay", as he calls it. Drink 2022-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 94/100
'Ignis Pinot Noir hails from a northern slope in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Organically farmed, the vineyard is cluttered with round pebbles on the soil surface with underlying decomposed granite. Latin for “fire”, ignis refers to the fact that granite is an igneous rock formation – “from fire to stone”. Storm Ignis Pinot Noir 2019 is savoury, scented and delicate. It has ample finesse with attractive sweetness and some underlying grip.' – Storm Wines

|Producer information||Hannes Storm has spent nearly 2 decades in the pursuit of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay perfection. No single SA winemaker is more dedicated or focused on growing and vinifying Pinot and it shows. After 12 years as winemaker at Hamilton Russell, he started his eponymous label Storm Wines in 2012, and has since been focusing on the best-suited sites for this challenging variety. The remarkable Storm trio – the Ignis, Ridge and Vrede Pinot Noirs each come from one of the three appellations in the Hemel-en-Aarde. Storm Wines is the only producer with Pinots from each of these three appellations. If you have not tried these, you are missing out on South Africa’s benchmark Pinot Noirs.|
