'35% Semillon from Franschhoek, 28% Roussanne from both Stellenbosch and Paardeberg, 16% Chardonnay from Ceres Plateau, 15% Chenin blanc from Paardeberg and 6% Clairette blanche from Swartland. Aromatics that tantalise and beguile – pear, peach, lime, green apple plus nutty, earthy, waxy notes. The palate has weight but also focus – great fruit concentration, driving acidity and a savoury finish. Taut in structure, intricate in flavour profile. Perhaps not as obviously pleasurable as the superb 2019 but compensates for this by offering plenty worthy of intellectual contemplation.' – Christian Eedes,, 96/100

'This is our signature wine and it is where all our work comes together to make our most complete wine. The wine is composed from a number of carefully selected vineyard sites in the Western Cape. Notes of hay, wild honey and nut brittle aromas on the nose lead into a rounded, intense palate of honeybush, yellow plums and a subtle gun flint smokiness with a long full bodied finish. – John Seccombe, Winemaker

Tasting notes on the 2019 vintage:
'Triumphant blend of roussanne, semillon, chardonnay, clairette & chenin from widespread vineyards. Gorgeously aromatic 2019 is complex & full of early delight. Has it all: fruit depth, weight, texture, elegant dry grip, lemony acidity, joy, & a unique fascination.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (97/100)

'Produced from grapes purchased across the Western Cape, with the bulk from the Swartland and Stellenbosch, this is Roussanne dominated with 64% Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Clairette Blanche. Handled oxidatively and aged in older wood, it's complex and savoury with peach, greengage and citrus fruit and some phenolic grip. Drink 2021-25' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100

Producer information Thorne & Daughters Wines was started in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe with the aim to produce authentic wines in the beautiful Western Cape. John works with grapes from all over the Cape and seems to have a particularly refined aesthetic when it comes to winemaking. His Thorne and Daughters family concern is truly pushing the boundaries with old vines and simple, natural winemaking.
