'5-part Bordeaux blend, cab-led, 19 months in barrique. Bright fruited, cassis & cherries, 2016 multi-layered: prosciutto, white pepper, underbrush. Streamlined, with livening freshness giving lovely balance. Tannin a hidden strength. Worthy of cellaring, as 2015 (5 stars, 97 pts).' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (93/100)

'Chris Keet, one of the best red winemakers in the Cape, is the consultant on this five-way blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and a splash of Petit Verdot. The warmth of the vintage is apparent here on this slightly broader red, with dried herb aromas, sweet, slightly figgy fruit and a backbone of firmish tannins. Drink 2021-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 92/100

'The 2016 Cinq makes a splendid statement with its powerful structure and expressive fruit composition yet with its gentle tannins and juicy fruit on the palate. The classic oak character is seamlessly integrated with the fruit and the fresh berry acid gives the wine vibrance and purity of fruit. The gentle tannins are in perfect harmony with the wine leaving a lingering fruit sensation and satisfaction.' – Winemaker

Producer information Van Biljon is a boutique wine farm situated in Stellenbosch on the Tarentaal farm. Located on the southern slope of the Polkadraai Hills, with decomposed granite soil, the farm benefits from moderating sea breezes. Their winemaker Chirs Keet, also produces his wine, First Verse, in their winery. They focus on quality and perfection and as a result have produced their Cinq 2015 which is a blend of all the grapes grown on their farm.
