'The two Vinum wines are key to Radford Dale winemaking ethos and style. Essentially a second label to the terroir range, these are curated from sites we’re excited to develop, in tandem with talented and progressive growers. Quite simply, these two wines represent our best overall value to quality, and – we hope – over deliver off the shelf and from the wine list.' – Jacques de Klerk, Winemaker

Tasting notes:
'The aim here is to reveal "the hidden side of Pinotage", using natural fermentation and carbonic maceration. It's certainly a wonderfully drinkable red: supple and juicy with impressive colour and concentration and raspberry and black cherry fruit. Drink 2021-24.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 91/100

'Their second release of Vinum Pinotage. Two vineyards: the majority of fruit is from a northern site in the Stellenbosch region planted in 1997, on alluvial soil containing a high proportion of decomposed granite. The second component is sourced from the Frankenstein vineyard, planted to bush vines in 1989 on white clay. The rains preceding the 2019 harvest returned some much-needed vitality to these sites, following the tough drought conditions of 2015, 2016 and 2017. Whole-berry fermentation took place in open 600-litre wooden fermenters. The wine was pressed into small burgundian barrels (228 and 300 litres), an equal mix of second, third and fourth fill, for malo and fermentation. Screwcap.
Mid crimson. Lively, red-fruited and sweet-smelling with a touch of ripe red cherry, a suggestion of cough linctus. The oak completely backgrounded. On the palate, juicy, scented and a long way from the Pinotage norm. Medium- to light-bodied, relatively delicate but so full of sweet fruits. Gently chewy tannins and a fresh aftertaste even though the acidity is on the low side. Like all the Radford Dale reds I have just tasted, impressive persistence. So drinkable without being simple.' – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20
