Hartenberg, Riesling 2018 – R 140
'Harvested with a little botrytis in 2018, this reliably impressive Riesling comes from a single parcel on the farm at Hartenberg. Engagingly bone dry, with some phenolics from short skin contact, it's very much an Alsace style with lime and kerosene notes and a lively, refreshing finish. Drink 2020-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 93/100

Uva Mira, The Mira Sauvignon Blanc 2020 – R 170
'Our Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted on the highest vineyards on the Estate, on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain range, facing False Bay. The early morning breezes cool the vines, which contributes to the superb natural acidity in the grapes. Decomposed granite soils contribute to the minerality on the palate.' – Winemaker

Van Loggerenberg Wines, Break a Leg Blanc de Noir 2020 – R 145
'From Cinsault, the vineyard planted on granite in the Helderberg. Three different picks are completed, the first two fermented in old oak, the last in tank. Subtle aromatics of red cherry, apple, orange and spice. The palate is juicy and fresh – there’s a slight impression of sweetness upfront but the finish is gently savoury. Very open and engaging but perhaps lacks the vinosity of the previous vintage.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 88/100

Reyneke, Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 – R 100
'The Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 from Reyneke hugely over-delivers at R90 a bottle. Grapes are sourced from across the Western Cape, one portion directly from the Reyneke plantings in Stellenbosch and another from no lesser grower than Leeuwenkuil in the Swartland and it’s only lightly oaked, 25% matured for eighth months in older oak. The nose is very expressive with notes of black berries, earth, spice, dried herbs and a slight meaty quality while the palate has great fruit expression, driving acidity and grippy tannins. What it might lack in intricacy, it makes up for in exuberance.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100

Minimalist Wines, Connect The Dots 2019 – R 240
'Deliciously fresh & lively syrah on Helderberg granite & Elgin shale. Enlivening grape tannin grip from 100% wholebunch ferment effortlessly integrated with exuberant dark fruit after 10 months in older oak. 2019 super now, will reward few years cellaring. Wild ferment, as all.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (91/100)

Niepoort, Fabelhaft Tinto 2019 – R 185
'Mid purple crimson with vibrant purple rim. But the colour is not as vibrant as the fruit, which soars from the glass, in sweet black fruit aromas especially blackcurrant and cassis but with the wildness of elderberry. Dark-red fruits too, mulberry and raspberry. There’s a dark, rocky, almost dusty, overlay that I associate with the Douro though the wine is labelled as a wine of Portugal. Deep and rich-fruited on the palate, generous and yet so lively and fresh, with what might be a little bit of extra sweet spice from the oak. Dry and fine tannins balance all the zesty fruit. Still pretty firm. Drink Me is so apt for this wine but at the moment I’d broach it with food. A great all-rounder. It may not be a wine for long ageing but I think this will be even better with another 6 months in bottle. Vines 10 to 40 years old. Hand-picked Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela. Destemmed and fermented in stainless-steel tanks under controlled temperatures for approximately one week. A portion of the wine was matured in French oak barriques whereas the rest of the wine remained in stainless steel for about 6 months.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Aug 2020)
