Dear *|FNAME|*,
The last week has seen the release of all the First Growths as the campaign enters its final stretch. In today's newsletter, we wish to focus on:
Figeac
Consistently competing at the highest level for quality, Figeac is priced 40-60% below St-Émilion's 1er Grand Cru Classe A wines – Angelus, Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Pavie. With 63% of the wine coming from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in this vintage, Neal Martin notes, scoring it 96-98: '[it] has a typical Left Bank personality but with Right Bank precocity. This is a magnificent Figeac.' With St-Émilion to be reclassified in 2022, Figeac is a strong contender for a potential promotion to 1er Grand Cru Classe A status.
Les Carmes Haut-Brion
With its ultra-modern winery, this cult-like estate continues to command high prices on the secondary market. Released at under R2,000 per bottle, trade in London is already above R2,500. With a string of scores in the high 90s (95-97+ WA, 94-96 NM, 96 DEC and 97-98 JS) Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a must-buy!
Pontet-Canet
Pontet-Canet seems to be the Left Bank darling of en-primeur in 2020. Again priced around the R1,500 mark, this Pauillac legend offers tremendous value in comparison to its more illustrious neighbours. Galloni notes, 'tremendous purity of fruit and majestic balance.' Despite strong demand globally, we were able to secure our full allocation and still have a couple of cases left.
Bordeaux collection case
Once again, we are pleased to offer a collector's case of the finest wines from Bordeaux in 2020. The case consists of a single bottle each of the following wines: d'Yquem, Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Petrus. It is a great collection for serious Bordeaux collectors.
