Mauvesin Barton Moulis 2019
R 450 PER BOTTLE
Mauvesin Barton blew us away at our Bordeaux 2019 tastings with its generous nose and mineral palate. It’s worth putting away beyond 2030, yet totally approachable right now. If you can decant it for an hour, even better. Overshadowing many local and Bordeaux wines at the same price level, it offers incredible value at R450, scoring 93 points from Decanter and 91 from Antonio Galloni. ‘Understated yet wonderfully expressive and very tasty’, says Galloni. This is ideal for the dinner table or your next braai.

Luis XIV Fondillón & Vermut
FROM R 365 PER BOTTLE
Just arrived are the Luis XIV – the mythical Fondillón wines of Alicante, Spain. This is a rare style of wine from 100% Monastrell (Mourvèdre). Fondillónes are incredibly long lived and capable of extended ageing in solera. Though unfortified, they’re protected by a naturally higher level of alcohol. From an old cellar and ancient barrels, we offer the Fondillón 25 (aged for longer than 25 years) and the Fondillón 50 (aged for longer than 50 years). Also available is the young Vermut Rojo Dolce, which is made from Macabeo, aged with botanicals, and fortified to 15% alcohol.

Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 1997
R 1,395 PER BOTTLE
Established in 1787, Moulin Touchais in the Loire is home to one of the largest and oldest wine stocks in the world. They boast about 2 million bottles dating back to the mid-19th century, and the estate guarantees customers a century of longevity. Moulin Touchais is renowned for a sweet Chenin that’s aged for a minimum of 10 years in their seemingly endless cellars. Scoring 96 from Greg Sherwood and 95 from Vinous, we bought some more of the famed 1997. It’s powerful and concentrated, showing marmalade, dried peaches and honey, and is expected to age well until 2037!

Sandhi Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2020
R 1,010 PER BOTTLE
Wine Cellar’s Jolette Steyn spent a harvest with Sashi and Raj at Sandhi more than a decade ago, and a love affair with California ensued. The new vintage of Sandhi’s Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir has everything we love about the appellation’s Pinots. This cracking wine is bright and chalky, with notes of blueberry, purple flowers and tea leaves. Despite the raging fires during the growing season, 2020 was a harvest of exceptional quality (if reduced yields) for most producers. See our full range from the States here.
